Here is another look at 9-year phases
Numerologists regard any new beginning as the year 1. Therefore the formation of a business, for example, is considered as year 1 for the company. Let's say the company is in business for a long while. It will notice significant changes every four or five years and every nine years. For instance, at the 5-year mark, the company might take in a new partner or make a property move. At the 9-year mark, the company might split into two, or expand, or do an overhaul on the equipment. Whatever occurs will alter the company in a special way approximately every five and nine years from inception.
Let’s try another example. Suppose you relocated at age 21 (regardless of whether this age is part of your above series or not) to begin your archeology studies, let's say. With only 9 single numbers in our existence, all other numbers are a variation of the basic 9. The ‘0’ when added to the 1 becomes the first double digit that begins the next cycle. We see the ‘0’ (zero) to represent ‘everything and nothing’, but with the 1, it is transformed. (I am reminded of an old Hermetic axiom, the ‘one and the many’ ringing here…)
Notice how the circle and staff that forms the written ‘9’ symbol now separate and transform to make the digit 10. I wonder if this was not an arbitrary discovery of the ancients who designed what the number 10 should look like. It makes sense that the 10 would come out of the ‘9’, to emphasize the continuation and evolution of all matter.
I believe that the number 10 not only can be the symbol for the circle, but also to the Spiral movement as inherent in the DNA structure. The circle is closed-ended, forever moving round and round, but when added to the ‘1’, the number 10 is about evolution and change.
The ancients considered this number to represent perfection, a time of turning of events for the better, a period of luck and good fortune (10th card in the Tarot series is the Wheel of Fortune). The Mayans saw the 10 as an end to one cycle and the beginning of another. It means leadership and high mental comprehension.
When there is a 10 in one’s Numerology chart, the individual bears great inner strength and personal progress towards an end goal. It represents the union of male and female powers, beginning with the sperm as the ‘1’ and the egg as the ‘0’.
Birth Path Number
The birth path number, which suggests your overall path in life and place in the world, is based on your complete birth date. It is easy to calculate. Simply add up the digits of your birth data, and keep "reducing" (explained via the example here) to a single digit.
Example:
If your birthday is April 28, 1968, for example, note it as follows:
Birth Month is April, which is the 4th month = 4
Birth Day is 28 = 28
Birth Year is 1968 = 1968.
Add up the digits of all of these numbers:
4+2+8+1+9+6+8 = 38
Birth Day is 28 = 28
Birth Year is 1968 = 1968.
Add up the digits of all of these numbers:
4+2+8+1+9+6+8 = 38
Further "reduce" this number to a single digit by adding its digits:
3+8 = 11
3+8 = 11
And then further reduce it, if necessary:
1+1 = 2
1+1 = 2
The final digit, 2, is the Birth Path Number!
Name Number
Use the birth name--the name given a person at birth--to determine the Name Number (also known as the Expression Number), which reveals the overall personality. To calculate the name number, find the number that corresponds to each letter in the name in the chart below, add the numerals up, and then "reduce" the final number to a single digit, as you did with the birth path number, above.

The Meaning of Basic Numbers in Numerology:
Master Numbers
In the first example above, in which the calculations for the Birth Path Number were demonstrated, the final number was reduced from an 11 to a 2. In Numerology, there are such things as Master Numbers that are noted, and these are the numbers 11 and 22. Essentially, the number 11 is a 2, but it is considered a higher vibration of the number 2. Similarly, the number 22 is a 4, but it is a higher vibration of the number 4.
